NSFW & ISLERA proudly present 'Fool’s Gold' by Stockholm-based artist Caroline Nord. The exhibition will take place at ISLERA's exhibition space, located at Adolfo Gurrión 118, La Merced (CDMX), throughout November 2024. This exhibition marks our third partnership with ISLERA, an independent Mexican platform rooted in the La Merced neighborhood of CDMX, dedicated to artistic experimentation, collaboration, and cultural promotion.
In March 2024, ISLERA visited Sweden to present the work of Mexican artist Mariana Paniagua at our exhibition space in Gothenburg. Now, it’s our turn to visit them to showcase the work of Caroline Nord!
Caroline Nord (1994, SE) is a Stockholm-based artist educated at Konstfack in Stockholm and Parsons in New York. Her art practice is rooted in large-scale sculptural repetition, working with discarded materials collected from industries and boneyards around the world. Known as “slag,” these industrial by-products are cast aside during production. Often regarded as outside the bounds of conventional standards, they are often discarded or reprocessed repeatedly.
In her work, repetition and industrial waste serve as mediums to explore her perspective on “perfect” versus “imperfect” bodies. These wasted materials represent individuals existing outside normative social systems. Through an ongoing dialogue with these remnants, Nord examines their inherent resistance and transformative potential, allowing them to continuously reshape themselves into new forms.
Nord’s work challenges traditional notions of the “ideal form” reflecting on the pain, consequences, and experiences of bodies often marginalized for failing to conform to the standards of a normative, Western, male-dominated society.
